Calling all students and staff, come and join our 10,000 Steps Challenge as we raise our activity levels and get fit and healthy in both body and mind!

Sponsored by the Provost Committee and coordinated by the Sport Services team and the WHS & Wellbeing team, this challenge will see campuses go head-to-head to compete for individual and team prizes. The challenge is simple and will only require you to log your steps and activity each day throughout the challenge via the website or the mobile app, which then adds to your campus' total to show which campus has the most active community and claim bragging rights.

Every step you take at work, in your local area, during your general errands and all your workouts can count towards your online tally, and will progress your campus further up the leader board.

This years challenge also has some added competition, in that every single participants steps will count towards Westerns overall total in the Australasian University Health Challenge as we compete with Universities from all over Australia and New Zealand for ultimate international bragging rights.

All activity levels are welcome, and every step big or small can contribute to your team’s total. The website and app can connect to multiple fitness tracking devices and you can even just simply manually enter your steps via the website or the App

The challenge will begin on the 21st of August and ends on the 1st of October. To join the fun, you only need to register here on WESTERNLife and then you will be automatically re-directed to the 10,000 steps website to create an account. If the redirect does not work please use the web address here - https://www.10000steps.org.au/. Please make sure to register with your University staff email, (ie. J.Doe@westernsydney.edu.au) or student email.

Once you have registered on WESTERNLife and the 10,000 steps website, you will be added to your campus team by our challenge coordinator.

Once the challenge begins, it’s very simple – be as active as possible, track your steps using any fitness app on your phone that you feel comfortable with or use a simple pedometer. Then log your steps on the website/app or link your eligible fitness devices via the mobile app to have everything automatically sync. The App can be found in all app stores by searching 10000 steps and steps can be recorded and synced on most step tracking devices and apps such as Apple Watch, Samsung Health, Strava, Garmin etc. You can also visit the website or the app and just type in your steps each day if you like.

Your steps will contribute to your campus total with the winning campus being decided by the average daily steps of their top 10 contributors and in the event of a tie it will be decided based on the average steps of the 11th team member and so on.

The competition will end on the 1st of October after which time the winners will be announced. The winning campus will become the holder of the tournament trophy plus there are other great prizes for individual participants:

1. $100 1st Prize (individual winner per campus, highest average daily steps) –Gift pay voucher (https://www.giftpay.com.au)
