Harmony Day is the celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. Please come along to celebrate Western's diversity.
This year we are celebrating harmony and diversity, respect and inclusion with a special focus on Holi!
Holi is a Hindu festival that has been celebrated since ancient times. The Holi Festival is celebrated as a way to welcome in spring (or Autumn if you're down under), and also is seen as a new beginning where people can release all their inhibitions and start fresh.

Bright neon powder covers revellers in northern India during the annual Hindu celebration called Holi, usually held in March. Known as the festival of colours, Holi is celebrated on the last full moon in the lunar month of Phalguna. This ancient tradition marks the end of a season and honours the triumph of good over evil. Participants light bonfires, throw colourful powder called gulal, eat sweets, and dance to traditional folk music.
All students and staff are welcome to attend this free event.
Please make sure you register your attendance via WesternLife as places are strictly limited.
IMPORTANT: If you intend to participate in Holi and throwing of colours, please wear suitable clothing.
This is a SSAF funded event and is supported by Student Representative Council, Western VISA, Formula SAE, WSU Indian Society, Inclusive Communities, Next Practice Western Sydney Integrative Health (WSIH), Mental Health and Wellbeing, Equity and Diversity, and the We-CALD Network and Mahan Art Centre, Parramatta.
